µTomo
SoftX
Description
The µTomo station has been designed for X-ray imaging up to 350 keV. In the experimental hall, it is possible to perform radiography, tomography in various modes (fan beam, cone beam, and helical), and laminography. A sample holder is available to accommodate different acquisition geometries, along with a set of detectors calibrated for specific applications.
Resolutions range from a few tens to a hundred microns, with the possibility of dose control. This allows for a wide range of applications, including preclinical imaging of small animals, the study of the structure and composition of highly absorbing materials, the analysis of defects in large objects, and the investigation of cultural heritage artifacts.
Instrumentation
The instrumentation is installed inside a shielded bunker equipped with the necessary systems for their operation and for conducting experimental activities. Systems for beam calibration, geometric definition, and monitoring are also installed. The imaging system allows the acquisition of radiographs and tomograms by selecting the most suitable mode for studying the specific sample being analyzed.
The control of the instrumentation is done through an intuitive graphical interface that guides the user through their activities, but the open nature of the software also allows for the implementation of alternative modes for experienced personnel. The µTomo system has both the infrastructure for data management (high-speed network, storage system) and the hardware (workstations) and software (reconstruction and analysis programs) tools for in-depth analysis of the obtained data.
